Manicure Monday: Over the Moon or Hello Halo?

The traditional french manicure seems almost passé thanks to the recent nail art boom. There are tons of different variations of this classic manicure, but there are two that seem to be gaining more and more popularity: The Moon Manicure and The Halo Manicure.

The moon manicure is a fun, geometric play on the "moons" of your actual nails. 

(You know, the light colored crescent shape and the base of your nail.)

Happy Halloween Everyone!

I hope everyone will have a fun and safe Halloween tonight. For those affected by hurricane Sandy, I send my thoughts and prayers to you.

If anyone is staying in tonight for Halloween like me, here's a great manicure to try that will make you feel festive.

This manicure is super SWEET. The thumb is a tootsie roll. The pointer uses REAL Nerds candy. The middle finger is candy corn, of course. The ring ringer is a Hershey's kiss, and the pinky is a lollipop water marble!

Let's Get Organized

A 9 o'clock last night, my friend Colby texts me this picture:

I think I might have died from laughing so hard. 1) I absolutely love The Little Mermaid and 2) It's true! I always want more nail polish no matter how big my collection gets. 

A lot of people have asked me how many polishes I have and how I store all of my nail polish and nail art supplies. It is pretty simple actually. I have 3 plastic tubs that I color-code my polish in and I have a case where I store all my nail art supplies.

 

The result: All of my things in one place where I can see and access everything easily. No, it's not the perfect system but it works!

New Tutorial: Skulls, Hearts & Crossbones!

       Finally, a new tutorial and just in time for the spooky holidays too! My newest tutorial is a twist on your normal Halloween manicure. My skulls are...dare I say, cute?       This super simple tutorial is great for beginners and will also be perfect if you are celebrating Dia de Los Muertos! (I have always loved this Mexican holiday... las calaveras de azúcar son muy bonitas!)      The best part about this spooktacularly adorable manicure is that you can wear it any time of year. Skulls are a huge trend right now so why not translate that trend to your nails!

Nail Polish eCards Cure the "Mondays"

It seems to me that everyone I know is OBSESSED with eCards. There is an eCard for EVERYTHING. I have a case of the Monday's today and I though, what better way to cheer myself up than to find some wonderful eCards...about my most favorite thing...NAIL POLISH?!?

Selena Gomez v. Kylie Jenner - Polish Showdown!

OPI loves its celebrity collections and the brand's widely sold Nicole by OPI branch is no exception. Last holiday season, Nicole by OPI launched Kardashian Kolor -- 14 shades of nail polish inspired by the infamous Kardashian clan!

Now in January 2013, Nicole by OPI will give us another celeb collection, this time from Selena Gomez! Selena's line will also feature 14 polishes in a variety of colors.

Now, we've all see shades that are similar across the major polish brands, but what happens when a brand makes a dupe of its own polish? (A dupe is a duplicate or very similar color.) Check out the two colors below -- one is from the Kardashian Kolor collection and the other will be part of Selena Gomez's line!

Coming Soon: January 2013, Lines to Look For!

It may only be the second week of October, but you might want to start preparing for January 2013! Two very exciting, celeb-inspired collections will be released by the OPI family at the beginning of next year and I can hardly wait.

Just Jared reports that one line will be from the brand's Nicole by OPI branch. Selena Gomez is the celebrity inspiring this collection. Selena's line will include 14 colors ranging from pretty, pastel pinks to bold and dazzling glitters.

 The names of the polishes are inspired by some of her song and movie titles. Here are some of my favs from Selena's beautiful collection: Confetti Fun, Sweet Dreams and Pretty in Plum.

Another collection from the OPI brand will also be released in January 2013! Mariah Carey, one of the new additions to the American Idol judging panel, will release a collection of polishes with OPI's original polish.

Details about the collection are still fuzzy, but everyone is expecting lots of flash and glam from the glamourous diva.

Gimme That GOLD!

All that glitters is gold!
No, but really. Now there is nail polish with REAL gold flecks in it. We can thank nail polish giants OPI and Zoya for the latest and greatest in nail glitz and glam.

Zoya's gold top coat is called GLITY and can be pre-ordered NOW on the Zoya Website! The orders are set to ship October 15th!*** The polish comes in a set of 3 polishes: a black, a white and the gold top coat.
***UPDATE: Zoya tweeted today that the GILTY Pleasures set is SOLD OUT. The item is limited edition due to scarcity of the materials used and will not be made available again. So...start checking Ebay! ;)

OPI's golden top coat is part of OPI's Holiday 2012 collection 'Skyfall' which is inspired by 007! The collection should be available sometime in October as well!

Demi Lovato: Polish Your Pinky Blue

Demi Lovato says wear blue polish on your PINKY!

Demi Lovato always has interesting nails! Her latest talon trend all about anti-bullying. Lovato recently spoke to The Young Woman's Leadership school in New York about her struggle with bullies in middle school reports Just Jared.

Lovato recalled many instances where kids were simply cruel. Bullying is never O.K. Help raise awareness against bullying and polish YOUR pinky blue!

New York Fashion Week - BCBG

New York's Fashion Week is in full swing right now with only 3 days left! Tons of designers and celebs are stepping out to preview Spring 2013 collections. If you are like me and can't seem to find the time to get out to New York this week... ;) Be sure to Click Here to watch some of the shows streaming live on YouTube!*

So far, I have seen the BCBG Max Azria show streaming live! I really loved some of the looks I saw. You will see lots of fun lines and creative geometric shapes in colors that include black, white, creme, tangerine and a periwinkle blue. I also loved the continuing trend of sheer fabrics paired with lace!

P.S. I just caught the end of the Carolina Herrera show...can I just say that I am so ready for spring! I am totally loving the colors and flowy fabrics! Here's to a fast winter and an early spring arrival!

Seeing Stars, In My Nail Polish At Least!

A few days ago, this beautiful polish caught my eye at the store. It was multicolored chunky star glitters suspended in a clear coat. I instantly had to have it. The polish is 'Hollywood Walk of Fame' from singer Fergie's new collection with Wet N' Wild.

Since my nails were feeling rather neglected, (I had not changed the color in almost a week!), I had to use my new polish right away. It was hard deciding what color to put underneath but I ultimately decided to go with a purple from Zoya called 'Mira.'

The end result? A fun, bright look that is sure to send off summer with a bang!

Fall will be arriving quite soon so I'll be using less vivid colors to follow the change of the season. New York Fashion Week is starting today! Be on the look out for cool nails on the catwalk!

Fall Collections of 2012

The leaves aren't the only thing that will be changing color this fall season! Almost every major nail polish brand has or will release a fall collection this year and that means it's time to get painting! 

Every year, we see a typical color cycle. Winter brings shimmer, shine and darker colors. Spring gives us cremes in every pastel shade imaginable. Summer brings us the neons, and fall gives us the warmer tones of the rainbow.

This fall will be no exception. There are so many great colors from brands including OPI, Essie, China Glaze and others! Below is a preview of just a few fall collections. 

From Nars we will get the Andy Warhol colletion. This collection, inspired by the famed artist, will have 8 colors. The polishes will be available at Sephora beginning October 1st. Mark your calendars because these colors are great!

OPI never fails to impress. Their fall collection, inspired by Germany, consists of 12 colors. These colors range from neutrals like 'Don't Pretzel My Buttons' to brighter hues like the red 'Deutsch You Want Me Baby.' The polishes are available now wherever OPI colors are sold.

China Glaze gave us the Safari collection for fall a bit early this year! (It was released sometime in July.) These wild colors have great names to match. There are two teal-green shades, a hot color for this season, that are particularly special. 'Exotic Encounters' and 'Elephant Walk' are sure to have you running to the beauty supply store cheetah-fast.

Last but not least we have Essie's fall collection, 'Stylenomics.' While less varied than the collections above, there is still a gem or two to be found. The deep burgundy-fuchsia  color, 'Skirting the Issue' really fits the fall theme. The dark green color 'Stylenomics' is also a fun and different option not found in the other collections.
